Recently, Several community serve team leaders threw a baby shower for 2 young ladies in transitional living at St. Joseph’s. These young women were aging out of care in need of cribs and car seats but our CarePortal Network quickly planned a beautiful celebration to provide those needs and so much more. I wish I’d gotten a better photo of the group, but we couldn’t fit all the attendees in the frame! Half of the room was filled with gifts, the other half filled with women of faith and the whole building was filled with love.
As the ladies chatted and got to know one another I watched friendships begin and real connections being made. I know these young mothers walked away feeling loved by their community and with a few new contacts tucked away. We hope that we can build lasting friendships and lend ongoing support. Our prayer is that we have obediently answered the call of Christ and that hearts and lives are changing as we engage our community. We truly desire for these ladies (and everyone connected with them) to experience the Love of Jesus… because we are so acutely aware of the difference HE makes in a life.
I’m reminded of this excerpt from Something Needs to Change: A Call to Make Your Life Count in a World of Urgent Need By: David Pratt "In John 10:10, Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Unlike a thief, the Lord Jesus does not come for selfish reasons. He comes to give, not to get. He comes that people may have life in Him that is meaningful, purposeful, joyful, and eternal. We receive this abundant life the moment we accept Him as our Savior. This word “abundant” in the Greek is perisson, meaning “exceedingly, very highly, beyond measure, more, superfluous, a quantity so abundant as to be considerably more than what one would expect or anticipate.” In short, Jesus promises us a life far better than we could ever imagine.”
THAT is the life we are living with the Lord! The more we intend to give, the more we “accidentally” receive. Of course there’s no accident involved in this abundant life supplied by Christ. God designed it just this way. Our hope abounds for the young mother’s we served last week, because we know first hand the joy that comes from a surrendered and spirit led life… it’s MORE life, fresh and new life all the time leading into eternity.
This week I’m praying for abundance on every front so that we can meet the current needs in our neighborhoods!
