When God softens hearts and draws us together.
A few weeks ago, I shared about a prayer service we had at my church. We prayed for several families we'd connected with through CarePortal.... and in that post, I shared those prayer requests with you. The list included this one:
Pat is a grandma caring for 3 young children. They are facing eviction when the landlord renovates to rent to a higher paying tenant. She asked us to pray for the ability to stay in her neighborhood, connected to her current support system.
And this was my challenge:
Let's HUMBLE OURSELVES and PRAY! Let's turn toward God, seeking his face, and turn away from everything that opposes him. Let's watch God HEAL OUR LAND in ways that no amount of programming or technology could accomplish.
I got so many responses! So many of you partnered with us in prayer and continued to lift this family up in your own prayer time. When I got GOOD NEWS this morning, I just had to pass it on to our extended prayer circle!!!
While performing an extensive search for new apartments, and an exhaustive hunt for every possible resource for rent assistance, the resource director from the kids' school submitted a prayer request to CarePortal. She said, "at this point, all we can do is trust God." After WE ALL PRAYED, Pat's current landlord CHANGED HIS MIND. Miraculously, he decided to do the renovations on Pat's unit, and raise her rent by only $100 a month (which is manageable for her) and not to proceed with eviction.
This simple provision from the Lord reminded me of this:
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." ~Philippians 4:6-8
Max Lucado says this in his book Anxious for Nothing: "I’m sure you’ve had an appliance you may have tried to fix, but with no success. So, you took it to the specialist. You explained the problem and then… did you offer to stay and fix it yourself? or hovered asking questions about the progress? did you throw a sleeping bag on the floor so you could watch the repairman at work? If you did any of these things, you don’t understand the relationship between client and repairman. The arrangement is uncomplicated. Leave it with him to fix it! Our protocol with God is equally simple. Leave your problem with him. God doesn’t need our help, counsel, or assistance. "
Praise God that we can leave it with Him! There are times when all our efforts and kindness and generosity STILL can't solve what's going wrong in the world. This was one of those times. But collectively, we left it in His expert and loving hands... and somehow, beyond our understanding HE MADE A WAY. Thank you, for partnering with us in prayer... and thank you for MAGNIFYING HIM with us in our community.
“Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world. ~Isaiah 12:4-5
