Today, as I met with CarePortal network leaders, discussing strategies for how we could better serve our respective communities and better engage our local churches... we stubbled upon a metaphor that encouraged us all. I thought I'd share it here in case it hits you the same way it hit us (sorry for the puns- this one and all the ones to follow. Stick with me.)
Sometimes it's just a FIGHT.
We can have the best intentions, and the most excellent work ethic, and still the punches keep coming. Recently we responded to a request for a washer and dryer for a local school. The school rep noticed many students with hygiene struggles and after several discussions, she discovered that many simply don't have access to laundry essentials. We simultaneously had a washer dryer offered up from a neighbor. We were overjoyed to provide such a big item, and thrilled to put our neighbor's donation to such a great purpose. Well, only days later that washer dryer unit gave out. That felt like a devastating blow, but I'm learning to recognize that specific brand of discouragement from a mile away. It's a tactic designed by our enemy to take us out of the ring. It tries to get us asking "why bother?" It tries to get us to take off our gloves and throw in the towel. (ok, I'm almost done with the boxing stuff 😉)
The point is:
"Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses." 1Timothy 6:12
And, here's the thing. When we get knocked down, we get back up. The Lord is teaching me to get up quicker and quicker each time... and as I type I'm still looking for another washer and dryer to replace what we promised! I believe God has a plan, and maybe you are part of that. (if you have a lead on super affordable washer and dryer, please let me know). Please pray for these students. We all know it's not just about the laundry. These machines could help provide dignity, and open doors for the message of the gospel to be known inside a school building! This is a HOPE BUILDER.
Let's commit to fighting the good fight all the way to the end! And I'm gonna add this right here... the end probably won't mean the end of this particular problem. I think I have to commit to fight to the end of ME. Because, faith tells us that the fight is fixed in our favor and in the words of my friend Eric Newberry from our CarePortal Missouri team "I didn't hear a bell!"
