In an Interconnected Community
One of the most fulfilling part of my work with CarePortal is the beautiful opportunity to hear and pass on the tremendous stories of how God is at work in our community. This week, I heard the same story from two of our partners... so I just had to share it.
Our friends at Safe Pastures ( https://www.safepastures.org) are on a mission to provide a loving, Christ-centered home for women who have aged out of foster care. They provide support while these women pursue post-secondary education and move toward self-sufficiency while living in community.
This is their banner verse:
“Trust in the Lord and do good; Dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37 : 3 - 4
Safe Pastures needed several kitchen tables to furnish their living spaces. The tables were provided (Praise God!) and had been delivered to the garage. The problem was, getting them up the stairs and set up in the apartments.
Enter our partners at Junk King ( https://www.junk-king.com) Junk King employs some of the kindest, most community minded people I've ever met. They have dedicated their lobby space to educating anyone who walks in their doors about the local non-profits that they support. CarePortal and Safe Pastures are both represented on their walls. In the same week when kitchen tables needed to be carried up staircases, a young man they call "Tree" (he's an extremely tall guy) walked into their lobby. He'd been thinking about how to volunteer and do some good in his community. Tree works at Junk King and knew if he walked into that lobby, an opportunity would present itself! After a short conversation with their admin, he was on his way (with a buddy) to serve his neighbor by carrying tables up stairs.
When I heard about this interconnected moment this verse sprang to mind:
"But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a TREE planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit” Jeremiah 17:7-8
CarePortal Family... Let's trust in the Lord! Let's be like Tree, with interconnected roots in our community, led by the Holy Spirit, serving our neighbors. Let's operate in fearlessness. Let's cast off worries knowing that what God has led us to will never fail to bear fruit!
