There are no secular spaces.

When God shows up in a Public School Parking lot.

As most of you know, I'm a collector of testimonies. I love to hear about what God is doing... I love to shove my way to the front of a crowd and watch God reveal himself... I love to rejoice with those who rejoice. I recently had a friend and coworker ask me what I do for fun... I have to admit, I drew a blank. I thought long and hard about that, because I think everything I do is fun! haha. And then I realized that my hobby is God watching. Some people hunt, or bird watch, or sit on park benches and people watch... I WATCH GOD. I watch him move. I look for him everywhere. The Holy Spirit has taught me to search out his natural habitat (children, the needy, the broken), set up camp, and watch. But when I walked into a school building last week I wasn't expecting a miracle sighting. I was there to train school representatives to submit requests on behalf of their students. We talked about technology, processes and how CarePortal can help connect families in crisis with community support. I may have mentioned the ability to request prayer, but in every sense of the word, I gave the most "secular" version of my presentation that I can manage. As I was leaving, one of the ladies I had just trained stopped me in the parking lot. She said she had felt the Holy Spirit FILL that room! We spoke at length about the revival she has been praying for in her community... how this "CarePortal Tool" was about to make that happen... and with pure joy and excitement in her voice she said:

"I just feel His presence all over this. I did not expect to encounter Jesus like this, at work".

Suddenly, in a public school parking lot, I saw Him! And I was reminded once again, that He is moving EVERYWHERE. I'm reminded to keep my eyes open... to stay alert... because there are no secular spaces! He dwells in our schools, in our government buildings, in our so-called "secular" agencies. He resides in every part of his creation, and his sacred image bearers occupy every facet of our society. It's up to us to recognize Him and glorify Him there. “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Col 3:17). This comes out of the section in Colossians on Holy Living...on a sacred lifestyle...and the Scriptures affirm that living life for God is not about pulling away from the world but doing everything we do recognizing that God is with us—regaurdless of where we are; there is no secular act, there are no secular spaces, as long as we recognize God at work. Watch this video, or show it in your next church service.

I'm praying this week that as we walk through our "normal" lives... we will be acutely aware of the leading of the Holy Spirit! May we search Him out, find Him ...and find joy in the process! May we each DO everything we do in the name of the Lord! May we find that all our spaces are sacred! ~amen
