This photo is of author Kevan Chandler being carried around the world. Read about his adventure in his book: “We Carry Kevan: Six Friends. Three Countries. No Wheelchair”
It reminds me of a group of friends in the Luke 5... They believe in the healing power of Jesus. One friend among them was paralyzed. He couldn't move. He was being carried around on his bed. I imagine he wasn't getting out much, but his friends carried him when he did. They decided to take him to Jesus, but they couldn't t make it through the crowd. But they were determined so they got creative.
They made a hole in the roof over where Jesus stood. Then they lowered the bed with the sick man on it down before Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the man, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”~Luke5:19-20
and then he said
“I say to you, get up. Take your bed and go to your home.” At once the sick man got up in front of them. He took his bed and went to his home thanking God. ~Luke5:24-25
In the words of Pastor Petros Yefru : "We all know broken people. We all have people to carry to Jesus."
This week we met a family still reeling and recovering from violence. The grandparents had taken in grandkids when the FBI arrested the parents for child abuse. The FBI agent submitted a CarePortal Request asking for supplies to help stabilize the home, and for prayer and support for the family's emotional needs. Their local church stepped in, carried in supplies, and offered open access to Jesus! This sweet grandma was overwhelmed by the generosity of her community and accepted an invitation to attend church the following week.
Every CarePortal Request represents a struggle. Families are experiencing brokenness, isolation, and need. May we, as their faith community, carry that burden with them... May we pool our strength and creativity and carry them to Jesus. May we work smart. May work together. May we labor toward making access for ALL people to the Lord. ~Amen
